Little Miss Manners

Sunday afternoon I went to a parenting class called "Getting Ready for Summer."  I am always looking for ways to empower myself and enlighten my children!  It is my goal in life to raise children that are not only book-educated but equipped with life skills that will help them have a beautiful life that is rooted in God's love and grace.  And that is what we are doing this summer and every summer to come.

So I am embarking on a little summer journey to transform my little ladies into little miss manners.  We started tonight by learning how to set the table.  Two little ladies were absolutely thrilled to set the table and help with dinner.

The Table Manners We Are Learning This Summer:

Comes to the table on time.
Knows how to correctly set a table.
Sits up straight.
Places napkin on her lap.
Takes his hat off.
Makes only positive comments about food.
Waits for the hostess to sit before serving or eating.
Puts modest portions on his plate.
Keeps elbows off table.
Knows how to use utensils correctly.
Chews with her mouth closed.
Doesn't talk with food in her mouth.
Places knife and fork sideways on plate when finished.
Asks to be excused before leaving the table.
Offers to help the hostess.
Thanks the hostess before leaving.

My oldest, 1 of 3, does many of the items on the list already.  It sure does make her beam to think that she already has great manners.  Manners fit for a princess.  And my 3 year old is becoming interested in helping in the kitchen and having polite manners too.

Summer fun times!!!

Costco To The Rescue

Just wanted to share a money saving tip I discovered at Costco this weekend.  Organic meat for a third of the price of grocery store organic chicken.

I have to say that I have turned into a "buy from my local farmer" kind of gal.  But there are times that I need a few things and have to head to the grocery store.

Organic chicken at Central Market is about $15ish dollars for 2 chicken breasts.  Costco has 6 organic chicken breasts for about $17 dollars.  That is a big savings!!!!!

And the chicken is packaged in sets of 2 chicken breast so it is easy to freeze the unopened chicken.

Just wanted to pass this on to all of my organic shopping momma friends out there!  I think they have other organic meat too.  Go Costco!

Running Around Like A Chicken With Its Head Cut Off

The past few weeks have been crazy busy!  I have neglected my blogging but never fear, it hasn't been the only thing neglected.  You should see my house.  And my car.  And worst of all, my eating!

So here's the deal.  I have been eating HORRID!!!!!  And sadly, my little people have too!!!  There was a time last week that I ate chocolate chips and peanut butter for breakfast.  Really?  What in the world was I thinking???

This blog is such a great accountability for me and my healthy lifestyle.  When I don't blog I don't eat so well.  Or maybe when I have time to blog, I have time to cook.

Whatever the reason, I am going to try to make a point to blog something to remind myself just how necessary it is to eat well.

We still make it to the Farmer's Market most Saturdays and I'm still trying to eat a salad most days.  In fact I am eating one as I blog.  Confession: I wish I were eating a cheeseburger from Mighty Fine.

MUST GET BACK ON TRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  This running around like a chicken with its head cut off is for the birds.

Delicious And Nutritious Ice Cream

Summer is upon us and the days are getting warmer!  Well, there is the exception of the last few chilly mornings.   My little people are begging for smoothies and ice cream daily!  Their momma is doing all she can to sneak more fruit and vegetables into their diet so the ice cream and smoothies seem to be the best avenue.  Every evening their momma experiments with a new recipe.  Tonight's experiment turned out great so I wanted to share.

Delicious and Nutritious ice cream was named by 1 of 3 who ate 3 bowls.

Delicious and Nutritious Ice Cream Recipe:

1 bag organic blueberries
1 1/2 frozen bananas
1 blueberry container of So Delicious Coconut Milk yogurt 6 oz
Water as needed

Blend in Vitamix or blender until smooth.
